The production Kurios. Cabinet of Curiosities, which has already performed over 3,500 shows in 40 cities and been seen by more than 7 million spectators, arrives in Alicante as one of six Spanish cities to host it. The show blends acrobatics, humor, and poetry, with an aesthetic inspired by the ancient cabinets of curiosities from the Industrial Revolution.
Alicante-born artist David García Coll will portray an idealistic 19th-century scientist, convinced of the existence of an invisible world full of dreams and ideas waiting to be discovered. The director of International Markets for Cirque du Soleil, Itxaso Barrios, noted that the show will mobilize 120 members from 33 countries and bring together around 50 artists of 21 nationalities on stage.
The large Cirque du Soleil tent will be set up at San Juan Beach, with a capacity for 2,400 spectators, and will offer seven weekly performances. The Culture councilor, Nayma Beldjilali, emphasized that this event generates significant tourist attraction and positions Alicante on the cultural map.
“"Cirque du Soleil generates great tourist attraction and positions Alicante on the path to placing the city on the cultural map that we want to highlight with this top-level show."
Furthermore, the biennial contract foresees a new presence of Cirque du Soleil in 2028. The arrival of Kurios will also involve the hiring of approximately 180 people in Alicante for support tasks in ticketing, accommodation, bars, merchandising, kitchen, and production, through temporary employment agencies, thus strengthening the city's cultural and tourist calendar.
