The Generalitat has confirmed the replacement of surface parking with an underground facility in Alicante, integrated into the works of the TRAM d'Alacant Central Station, to free up space for the development of the future Central Park.

The president of the Generalitat, Juanfran Pérez Llorca, announced this measure during the presentation of the design for Alicante's Central Park. He was accompanied by the Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, the mayor of Alicante, Luis Barcala, and the counselor Vicente Martínez Mus.
The head of the Consell emphasized that this action will be executed simultaneously with the station's construction, optimizing resources, reducing deadlines, and avoiding duplication in one of the city's most significant urban interventions. The project prioritizes intermodality with an investment of 102 million euros in the TRAM d'Alacant Central-Intermodal Station, designed to connect the TRAM with rail and bus transport.
Works have progressed at a good pace, with completion expected by early 2029. Structural piles and roof slabs have already been installed, and excavation of the tunnel connecting to Luceros has begun, using techniques that minimize disruption to urban traffic. The project is a result of institutional collaboration through the mercantile society AVANT, involving the Generalitat, the Ministry, the City Council, and ADIF.

"For more than thirty years, Alicante residents have lived with this railway track area that divides the city in two. What is today an urban scar will become the green lung that Alicante deserves."

Óscar Puente · Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility
The Central Park of Alicante will involve covering the current railway tracks with a green environment featuring commercial and leisure spaces. The transformation began a year ago with the remodeling of the track area, an investment of 20.2 million euros, which will culminate in the implementation of 14 train tracks (10 standard gauge and 4 Iberian gauge for commuter trains).
The project is structured around seven agreements, including the redistribution of 220,000 square meters of developable land, the reorganization of road traffic, the maintenance of the historic Red Bridge, railway integration with track covering, the location of the new station at the park's southern access, and the preservation of historical heritage.
This urban transformation, demanded by citizens for over 20 years, has been driven by the Alta Velocidad Alicante Nodo de Transporte (AVANT) society. Following a rigorous study, an estimated investment of 420 million euros has been allocated for this project, which is considered key for the city and the Mediterranean Corridor.
