A thousand people have demonstrated today in Alicante to denounce the critical situation of housing access and demand urgent measures to stop the eviction of residents from their neighborhoods.

The march, called by various housing unions, toured the city center this Saturday, from Manila Square to Puerta del Mar Square. Participants wanted to highlight the difficulties faced by a large part of the citizenry, especially young people, in becoming independent and finding a place to live at an affordable price.
During the route, which passed through streets such as Jijona Avenue and Alfonso El Sabio, slogans were heard against the commodification of homes. The organizers pointed out that rental prices have experienced disproportionate increases, in some cases exceeding 80% since the start of the pandemic.

"We want everyone to have a home and for them not to be a commodity, because houses are the places where we build our projects, our dreams, and our future."

Attendees criticized the current management and warned about the uncertainty many families face due to the fear of evictions and constant price hikes. The protest concluded around 2:00 PM, after two and a half hours of mobilization through the streets of Alicante.
