The Alicante City Council has accelerated gardening work and the replacement of palm trees and flowers on Dénia Avenue in preparation for the Santa Faz Pilgrimage, scheduled for Thursday, April 16.

The city of Alicante has been intensely preparing to welcome the Santa Faz Pilgrimage, with a thorough refurbishment of Dénia Avenue. 18 palm trees have been replaced, and hundreds of floral and shrub species have been planted in the central and side flowerbeds of this important urban artery.
The Green Areas Department and the municipal service Brota Alicante, managed by STV Gestión, have coordinated these actions. The Councilor for Parks and Gardens, Rafael Alemañ, emphasized that the work has extended throughout the city, with special attention to key points in the festive calendar.

"These actions, which have been carried out in a coordinated manner across all neighborhoods, have paid special attention to spaces that are key in the festive calendar of these months, such as Dénia Avenue, through which thousands of pilgrims will accompany the Santa Faz next Thursday, April 16, on their journey to the Monastery that bears its name, with the aim that Alicante looks its best, as every spring, and offers its best image."

On Dénia Avenue, one of Alicante's main entry and exit routes, workers have performed manual weeding, cleaning and trimming of hedges, lawn mowing, shrub replacement, palm tree pruning, and the substitution of specimens in the median. Tree lifting work has also been carried out to improve safety and visibility in an area that will gather thousands of pilgrims during the romería.
The spring campaign also included the renovation of mixed flowerbeds in emblematic points of the urban center, such as Plaza de Luceros, Doctor Gadea Avenue, Federico Soto, Constitución, the surroundings of the Teatro Principal, Plaza de la Montañeta, or Loring Avenue. These actions were carried out before Holy Week to enhance color and landscape quality.
Additionally, the city council maintains a tree replacement plan across all Alicante neighborhoods, with the planting of nearly 500 new specimens. The selected species have been chosen for their adaptability to the Mediterranean climate and urban conditions, aiming to promote urban biodiversity and mitigate the heat island effect. Palm trees of the Livistona species have been replaced on Dénia Avenue, Phoenix dactylifera in Plaza de la Santísima Faz, and Phoenix canariensis on Estación Avenue.
