The city of Alicante has once again raised its voice in defense of music in public schools. This Wednesday, students from Rabassa, Óscar Esplá, and El Tossal schools met in the Los Ángeles neighborhood to demonstrate the advantages that music brings to children as a subject in educational centers.
This initiative is part of Musiqueando 2026, a national proposal by the Confederation of Music Education Associations of Spain. The objective is to make visible the work carried out in music classrooms and to demand a greater presence of this subject in Early Childhood and Primary education. For the first stage, specialists are requested in classes, and for the second, where students receive two weekly sessions, the aim is to increase the hours.
During the day, students performed pieces with flutes, small percussion, songs, and innovative dance proposals, including exercises with basketballs. This demonstrates how music can be integrated into various disciplines and foster key skills. Students from fifth to sixth grade of Primary participated, as well as students with specific needs, such as cerebral palsy, motor impairment, and autism.
The music departments of the three promoting centers emphasize the importance of these initiatives to give visibility to public education and the effort made within it. Furthermore, they remind that their participation is part of a national network of teachers who, through Musiqueando, seek to strengthen the role of music education as an essential tool in the comprehensive training of students.
“"Music fosters the development of coordination, group cohesion, and attention, being a key element in the comprehensive training of our students."
