The Alicante City Council, along with the Fogueres Federation, has taken steps for the 2026 festivities, including security meetings and the 'Most Accessible Hogueras' awards.

The Alicante City Council, in collaboration with the Fogueres Federation, has advanced in the preparation for the 2026 festivities with two key steps. Firstly, the usual security meeting has been convened to outline the prevention plan and resolve doubts regarding public space occupation during the setup of 'racós', 'barracas', and 'fogueres'. Secondly, the Accessible Hogueras Awards have been announced.
The security meeting, scheduled for the 26th, will bring together representatives from the municipal areas of Festivities, Security, and Mobility, as well as members of the Fogueres Federation board and commission delegates. The aim is to finalize pending preparations, such as safety distances, clear pedestrian pathways, and schedules for music and the 'cremà' (bonfire).
The official program of events will commence on June 5th with the 'Desfile del Pregón' (Proclamation Parade), followed by its reading by singer Funzo, after the traditional tribute to deceased 'foguerers' and 'barraquers' at Plaza de España.
Secondly, the Urban Mobility Department has launched the 2026 Most Accessible Hogueras Awards, offering three prizes of 1,500, 1,000, and 500 euros. These awards will recognize monuments that facilitate circulation, vision, and comprehension for individuals with visual or physical disabilities through specific supports and actions. The guidelines are available on the municipal website.
The Councilor for Urban Mobility, Carlos de Juan, highlighted that the awards aim to enhance the awareness of hoguera commissions and artists regarding accessibility. Actions to be evaluated include accessible perimeters, fencing that allows wheelchair viewing, adapted signage, audio systems via QR or Navilens, and guided tours for disabled groups.
The objective is to foster inclusion in the Fogueres de Sant Joan festivities, following the proposal from the Accessibility Plan approved on October 5, 2021. A mandatory condition will be an accessible pedestrian route around the hoguera, as well as perimeter fencing that does not obstruct vision. Adapted signage, audio explanations via QR code or Navilens, tactile models, and guided tours will also be awarded points.
Commissions can submit their adult hogueras through the municipal electronic headquarters with a descriptive report of the accessibility measures adopted. The deadline for applications is 10 calendar days from their publication in the Official Gazette of the Province of Alicante (BOP) on Friday, May 15th. The jury will visit the hogueras and announce the winners on June 21st.
