The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has issued a yellow alert for heat in the southern coast of Alicante, which will be active this Tuesday from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Experts predict a notable rise in maximum temperatures in the south of the Valencian Community, with significantly high values expected, potentially exceeding 40 ºC. Minimum temperatures will vary little, leading to expected tropical nights in this area and along the entire Mediterranean coast.
This is due to the arrival of a front from the north of the Peninsula, which will displace the warm air mass towards the Mediterranean and the south. The onset of westerly and southwesterly winds will cause a very significant increase in temperatures in the center and south of the Valencian Community. This June 2nd will mark the first day this season that temperatures reach 40 ºC in some regions, and the third earliest occurrence of 40 ºC in the last forty years.
Furthermore, very strong wind gusts are expected in inland northern areas of Castellón during the second half of the day. For tomorrow, Aemet forecasts generally little cloud cover, with a decrease in temperatures, potentially dropping to 10 ºC in some inland areas.
Joining the province of Alicante with a yellow alert are the Region of Murcia and three provinces in Andalusia, which will activate orange alerts for maximums exceeding 40 degrees. Meanwhile, Catalonia and the Canary Islands will implement yellow alerts for rain, storms, and maritime disturbances.
