The self-managed festival Serrana Cuir will hold its third edition on June 12 and 13 in the Els Serrans region, aiming to create spaces for gathering and advocacy for the LGTBIQ+ community in rural areas.

This event seeks to overturn the perception that freedom for LGTBIQ+ individuals is exclusively found in large cities. The organizers argue that rural areas can also be habitable and less hostile spaces, where one can live with peace and acceptance.

"Many colleagues have left the village for the city, but many people from the city also want to go to the villages. Certainly, one of the festival's ideas is to combat the belief that the city is the only place to find freedom and acceptance."

Since its inception, Serrana Cuir has not been limited to Chelva, the main village where it is held, but has sought to involve all municipalities in the region. Before the central dates in June, the festival has already carried out activities in neighboring towns such as Aras de los Olmos and Titaguas, building networks and activating the territory.
The connection with Chelva stems from a practical and emotional decision, as many project members live and work there. However, the initiative seeks to expand and collaborate with other territories, integrating into local dynamics to generate joint activities and encourage community participation.
The festival is part of a broader movement that rethinks sexual and gender dissidence outside urban centers, drawing inspiration from references such as AgroCuir da Ulloa in Galicia. In addition to the festival, the collective has promoted the Aplec d’Iniciatives Cuirs Rurals del País Valencià, a gathering to connect projects and reflect on the challenges of the rural world.
Under the motto 'Against hatred, our fantasy', the third edition of Serrana Cuir offers a diverse program combining music, performing arts, and drag. Featured artists include Isla Kume, O Rabelo and Nenaza, the Castellón band Loretta’s, and artist Yusor Hamed, along with a selection of dissident DJs and acts like the drag cabaret Pluma negra.
