With the arrival of summer, the El Llosar campsite in Vilafranca del Cid has restarted its activity. The project, driven by the couple Sonia Málago and Álex Domingo, aims to promote rural tourism and bring visibility to the area. After years of living and working elsewhere, including experiences in Madrid, Guadalajara, and Germany, the couple has decided to settle in this region to start their business.
Sonia Málago, who has coordinated commercial teams, and Álex Domingo, a former telecommunications project manager, won the tender to manage the campsite. "We felt it was still early to return, but we were clear that we wanted to live and start a business here, and opportunities are few, so we had to seize them," comments Málago. The process has not been easy, involving moves, paperwork, renovations, and uncertainty, but enthusiasm and conviction have been key.
Álex Domingo is originally from La Iglesuela del Cid and Sonia Málago from Paiporta, with roots in Barbalimpia. The campsite, which has now opened its doors, seeks to apply the couple's experience as campers. "We really like camping and know many sites in different areas of Spain and Europe," notes Málago. They have already hosted visitors, including some English and German tourists, suggesting a promising future for the project.
The couple believes that the area of the Maestrazgo in Teruel and Els Ports in Castellón has significant potential for rural and family tourism. The project's philosophy is to transform the campsite into a meeting point for campers, travelers, locals, and nature lovers—an open space for enjoyment, rest, and coexistence.
El Llosar Camping-Bar, rated three stars, offers 60 plots for tents and motorhomes, ranging from 50 to 90 square meters, and provides various amenities. The plan is to gradually consolidate the project and introduce a calendar of activities, while also considering the possibility of adding a glamping area in the future.
The campsite's opening comes at a crucial time for the municipality's economy, and the couple believes that "it's time to reverse the situation." Currently, two additional people are working with the owners in the bar-restaurant, marking the beginning of this new venture.
