The first heatwave of the summer has arrived in the Valencian Community, sending thermometers soaring to records above 40 °C and triggering alerts for high temperatures and a high risk of fires.

Thermometers soared this Monday in the Valencian Community, registering highs that neared 40 °C on a day marked by the arrival of the summer's first heatwave. The town of Sorita, located in Els Ports, recorded the day's peak at 40.1 °C, according to data from the Valencian Meteorology Association (Avamet).
Nearly thirty municipalities exceeded 35 °C during the early afternoon hours. Among the most notable highs were 39.3 °C in Villena, followed by 38.3 °C in Morella and Rossell, and 38.2 °C in Vilafamés. Other locations such as Forcall, Santa Magdalena de Polpís, Anna, Benidorm, Artana, Cocentaina, Teresa de Cofrentes, and Ayora also recorded temperatures above 37 °C.
In the city of Alicante, 35.1 °C was reached, a value considered "very high for June" by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), especially due to the presence of maritime winds rather than westerly or southwesterly winds.
Aemet has activated a yellow alert for high temperatures in the coastal and northern inland areas of Valencia between 13:00 and 21:00 hours. Additionally, the Ministry of Health has declared a medium risk (orange) for heat in about twenty municipalities in the Maestrat and Els Ports regions, as part of the prevention program for health problems arising from high temperatures.
The fire risk has been set at a high level across almost the entire Valencian Community, with preventive surveillance flights scheduled. During Monday morning, four fires were reported in the province of Castellón, specifically in Nules (already extinguished), Santa Magdalena de Polpís, Burriana, and Benicarló (also extinguished).
Given this situation, it is recommended to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged sun exposure, and refrain from physical activity during peak heat hours. It is also advised to maintain a good diet with fruits, vegetables, and cold broths, and to especially protect children and the elderly. In case of dizziness or discomfort, seek a cool place and protect yourself from the sun with creams and hats.
