These new studies, presented this Tuesday by Mayor Rubén Alfaro, aim to strengthen Elda's position as an educational center and its commitment to talent, innovation, and equal opportunities, as stated by the City Council.
The Psychology degree will be offered in a face-to-face modality, while the Artificial Intelligence degree can be pursued both in-person and online. This expansion of the educational offer will become operational next academic year and represents a significant step forward for Elda's consolidation as a leading educational reference.
“"The arrival of these two university degrees marks a before and after for our city and for the entire region, as it reinforces our commitment to education as a driver of progress, equal opportunities, and economic development."
The incorporation of Artificial Intelligence is a strategic milestone, as Elda becomes one of five locations in the Valencian Community where this training will be offered, considered key for technological and economic development in sectors such as industry, healthcare, education, and services. The Psychology degree, meanwhile, will allow many young people to access university studies without needing to travel, facilitating work-life balance and democratizing access to higher education.
Also present at the presentation were the Councilor for University Relations, Elizabeth Belda, and the director of the UNED Associated Center in Elche, Francisco Escudero. Escudero highlighted UNED's commitment to Elda, a result of four decades of presence in the city.
UNED in Elda has experienced significant growth, with a record high of 1,070 students in the 2025-2026 academic year. Of these, 40% come from Elda and Petrer, with the remainder from provinces such as Murcia, Albacete, and Valencia. Additionally, the Open University for over 55s has seen a 31% increase, reaching 359 enrollments.
