The council intends to leverage the existing sister city relationship between the two localities to position the municipality within the new context of commercial relations between Spain and China. This initiative follows the recent official visit of the Spanish Prime Minister to the Asian country, which opens an opportunity for medium-sized cities to gain prominence in attracting foreign investment.
Petrer aspires to compete with other municipalities in the province, such as Alicante and Elche, which have recently conducted trade missions in China. The La Cantera project is presented as the main municipal asset within this roadmap, seeking to make this new business area attractive to Chinese companies interested in establishing themselves in Spain, especially in sectors such as textiles, technology, and the new automotive industry.

To advance this strategy, the council will have the support of an expert in the Asian market, vice-president of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in China. His knowledge will guide the City Council on the needs and priorities of Chinese companies interested in Europe.
According to this expert, the economic relationship between the two countries is evolving towards a more strategic model where trust and stability play a key role. The City Council is confident that the institutional link with Huadu can become a useful tool to generate business opportunities and employment in the municipality.
