The PP in Alcoy has addressed Compromís's accusation that the Ministry of Health intended to close beds and operating rooms at the Virgen de los Lirios Hospital this summer. The spokesperson for the Alcoy PP, Carlos Pastor, described these statements as "irresponsible, untrue, and solely aimed at causing concern and alarm among citizens."
According to the PP, it has been confirmed that healthcare staff holidays will not hinder the hospital's proper functioning or the healthcare provided to residents of Alcoy and its surrounding regions. The PP states that hospital occupancy typically decreases during the summer months, with around 40 beds remaining empty in July, August, and September. Of these, only 12 will be temporarily closed. This measure is attributed to organizational efficiency and adaptation to the lower patient demand characteristic of summer, a practice followed annually.
Regarding operating rooms, the party emphasizes that the planning remains identical to previous summers and healthcare staff holiday periods, ensuring timely medical attention, priority surgeries, and the hospital's ordinary operations.
Carlos Pastor criticized Compromís's stance, deeming it irresponsible to sow doubt about healthcare services for political gain. He highlighted the significant drop in hospital occupancy during summer and reiterated that the organizational measures are consistent with those implemented routinely. The Virgen de los Lirios Hospital will continue to operate normally, healthcare professionals will provide quality care, and citizens can rest assured that there are no healthcare cutbacks. These temporary reorganizations are based on technical and efficiency criteria and have always been carried out, even when the PSOE and Compromís governed the Generalitat, without prior outcry.
