The Batoi neighborhood, in Alcoy, maintains its demand for the demolition of the old local cinema, a building closed for three decades that is intended to house a day center.

The infrastructure, inaugurated in January 1960, operated as a cinema and later as a nightclub before falling into disuse. After the demolition works were awarded two years ago, the neighborhood is still waiting for the work to begin, a situation that has generated criticism from the opposition in the municipal plenary session.
According to the Urban Planning Department, the delay was caused by the diversion of an electrical line, an action that has now been completed. The contractor reportedly communicated that the demolition will begin next July, once the logistical difficulties that prevented the start in March have been overcome.

"The residents of the neighborhood have been demanding real solutions and immediate actions for too long. Instead of answers, they only receive broken promises."

The Alcoy City Council acquired the property in 2023 for a value of 56,505 euros. The original project proposed the creation of a day center and a multifunctional space for social activities, a proposal that was developed in the previous legislature through a participatory process and contacts with the Generalitat to seek funding.
