Sagunto Celebrates III Mostra Saguntum ad Mare Nostrum to Boost its Candidacy

The city of Sagunto hosts an extensive cultural program for over a month, featuring historical reenactments, theater, conferences, and music.

The city of Sagunto is hosting the III Mostra Saguntum ad Mare Nostrum, a cultural event that, for over a month, will fill the town with activities to strengthen its bid for World Heritage status.

The III Mostra Saguntum ad Mare Nostrum, presented on Tuesday at the Casa dels Berenguer, will take place from April 23 to May 29. This initiative aims to project Sagunto's past into the future, offering an extensive cultural program that includes historical reenactments, theatrical performances, conferences, and musical acts.
The program will kick off on Thursday, April 23, at 6 PM at the Casa dels Berenguer with a staged reading of Lysistrata by Aristophanes, performed by the Museo de la Escena Grecolatina. On Friday, April 24, the Casa Municipal de Cultura will host the tragedy Tebanas by Ay Teatro. On Sunday, April 26, the Orquesta Filarmónica de la Universitat de València will perform Mahler's Symphony No. 1 at the Auditorio Joaquín Rodrigo.
Conferences will play a significant role, with speakers such as Manuel Civera, who will discuss El Sagunt íber romà. La Roma republicana on Wednesday, April 29. Other talks will cover topics such as the role of Grau Vell in ancient trade, Christianity in Roman Hispania, and the history of Saguntum during the imperial era.
Historical reenactment will also be a highlight. On Friday, May 1, the Restitvtam Sagvntvm association will present the shows Ritus del foc and Ritual de Diana in the Forum square. On Saturday, May 2, From Hannibal to Scipio will be reenacted at the Roman Theater. The calendar will be completed with workshops on ancient writing, guided tours, and the presentation of the Saguntum Mediterrània chair.
The Culture Councilor thanked the participating entities for their involvement, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts to disseminate cultural heritage. The mayor highlighted that cultural initiatives should be built with the cooperation of community organizations to achieve greater social impact.
