The Sagunto regasification plant celebrates twenty years of operation, consolidating its position as a fundamental energy infrastructure for guaranteeing gas supply in the Valencian Community and throughout the country.

Since its commercial operation began on April 1, 2006, the facility has received a total of 1,046 methane tankers and discharged over 50.2 million tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG). This volume is equivalent to 765,971 gigawatt hours of energy, of which more than 648,113 GWh have been injected into the gas transport network, strengthening system stability.
Managed by Saggas, the infrastructure has played a crucial role for a community with high industrial and energy demand. Over these twenty years, it has also distributed 2.18 million tons of LNG via 113,775 tanker trucks for industrial uses, mobility, and other consumption segments.
Furthermore, since LNG loading onto ships began in 2013, the plant has completed 133 maritime supply operations, transferring over four million tons. Currently, its four tanks can store up to 600,000 cubic meters of LNG and have a regasification capacity of one million cubic meters per hour, which could meet approximately 30.73% of the national gas demand estimated for 2025.
One of the plant's most recent advancements is the incorporation in 2025 of bioLNG loading services, a renewable fuel. For this, Saggas has obtained ISCC EU certification, an international seal that accredits the sustainability and verifiable control of biofuels. This step positions the facility within the gas sector's strategy to adapt towards more sustainable energy models compatible with emission reduction.
The plant maintains a policy focused on operational safety and environmental sustainability. In 2009, it became the first regasification plant in Spain to voluntarily adhere to the European EMAS system for environmental management and auditing. Additionally, Saggas is among the first 62 companies worldwide to join the international Oil and Gas Methane Partnership 2.0 program, promoted by the United Nations to reduce methane emissions in the energy sector. The company has received the “Gold Standard” rating for its emission reduction plan for the fifth consecutive year, aiming to reduce methane emissions by 45% in 2025 compared to 2015 levels.
Participated by Enagás Transporte, Osaka Gas UK, and Oman Oil Holdings Spain, the Sagunto plant benefits from a strategic location due to its proximity to producing countries in Africa and the Middle East, as well as its direct connection to the peninsular energy system. With twenty years of activity, the Sagunto regasification plant now faces a new stage marked by service diversification and adaptation to the challenges of energy transition.
