The event, which took place in the town, was attended by municipal representatives who highlighted the importance of fostering scientific vocations among girls. The main objective of these awards is to combat the social constraints and the gender gap that still persist in STEM disciplines.
During the ceremony, the work of two prestigious researchers was recognized. The first, a doctor in Astrophysics and a tenured professor at the Universitat de València, was awarded for her outstanding career in the field of numerical relativity and gravitational waves. The second honoree, a professor of Computer Science at the Universitat Politècnica de València, received recognition for her extensive career in software engineering and systems security.
“"These awards are necessary and are here to stay. The need to continue building equality in STEM is a challenge, with vocational problems at different levels and social constraints."
The award winners used their speeches to underline the need to make women's role in science visible. They also emphasized current challenges related to work-life balance and equal opportunities in the academic and professional spheres.
