The Sagunto City Council has held an official reception for the Associació Moros i Cristians Sagunt after their festivities were declared of Autonomous Tourist Interest by the Valencian Generalitat.

The distinction, granted by the Valencian Generalitat and signed by the Minister of Industry, Tourism, Innovation and Commerce, recognizes those celebrations with special tourist relevance that contribute to preserving and disseminating Valencian popular culture and traditions.

"This recognition speaks volumes about the good work that has been done throughout the years, but it also, in some way, pushes us to be better. In some way, it speaks of the excellence of our festival and has also pushed us to continue improving it and trying to go further each year."

The Councillor for Festivities highlighted that the achievement on March 7 was a very important milestone for the city, recognizing the association's constant effort over 37 years. She emphasized that this teamwork has borne fruit and will continue to do so.

"It is not just an honorary title, but it has a broader impact. It has an economic impact on our city, as well as festive, associative, personal, and collective. I encourage you to continue working so that this festival becomes of National Tourist Interest. If you continue on this path, it will be so."

The president of the association thanked the institutional support and collective work that has allowed this distinction to be achieved. He recalled the beginnings of the festival in 1989, when a brave group wanted to bring this celebration forward in honor of the Virgin of Remedio. He highlighted that the declaration's dossier emphasized three unique elements: the Saguntine stew, the act of the Despullament del Moro in a Romanesque temple, and the Embassies in front of the Almenara Gate of the Castle, of Islamic origin.
The Moors and Christians Festivities of Sagunto feature a wide program of events that combine history, tradition, and citizen participation. Among the most notable are the Embassies and the Grand Entrance, which take place in the Roman Theater and the old town, as well as the act of the Despullament del Moro, which occurs in the Church of El Salvador after the offering to the Virgin of Remedio.
