This capacity reduction issue has been ongoing since 2024, when a change in criteria for the Emergency Plan led to a 30% decrease in the venue's capacity, impacting ticket sales for the festival.
The planned actions focus on improving access points, evacuation conditions, and existing infrastructure. Specifically, water filtration problems in public access areas will be addressed, six restrooms will be installed in the upper section, and evacuation from the upper cavea will be enhanced, a key factor in capacity calculation.
These works complement other interventions carried out in 2024, which included sanitation of access routes, installation of safety nets, and partial renovation of restrooms. Capacity calculation involves the collaboration of all implicated administrations.
The Ministry has also requested the approval of an updated Master Plan and a new inter-administrative agreement to comprehensively address pending interventions in this heritage site. Additionally, other contracts are being processed for technical assistance in actions at the Roman Theater, Sagunto Castle, and the Nave de Talleres, as well as the drafting of projects for roof and facility repairs at the theater.
Concurrently, a maintenance contract for buildings assigned to the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage is being managed, which includes the Roman Theater of Sagunto, Sagunto Castle, the Archaeological Museum of Sagunto, and the Nave de Talleres, with a budget exceeding 1.4 million euros.
