Following the retirement of Toni Sanfrancisco, who served as mayor for fourteen years, José Álvarez has taken the helm of the Benifairó de les Valls City Council. Álvarez, with prior experience as a councilor, now faces a broader responsibility, emphasizing the importance of dialogue with his predecessor to ensure a smooth transition and continuity in municipal management.
The new mayor has stated that, despite inevitable comparisons, he is not afraid of the challenge and will seek to imprint his own identity on the administration. He stressed that the main objective is the well-being of the residents, and that many aspects of management will be similar, as the ultimate purpose is the same: to work for the town.
“"With the little time left in the legislature, the priority is to finish everything that is already underway or about to begin."
Among the most immediate challenges, Álvarez has highlighted the completion of the new school's construction and the reopening of the municipal swimming pool, which suffered structural problems last year. These projects are considered priorities for the remainder of the legislature, along with the daily management of other ongoing initiatives.
The local government, formed by the PSPV-PSOE and Junts per Benifairó, has revised its pact to ensure an optimal end to the legislature. Álvarez has emphasized the good relationship with his government partners and the willingness to work together to avoid conflicts and provide good service to the citizens.
Furthermore, the new mayor has expressed his intention to address the lack of functional structure in the city council, with the creation of the Job List (RLT) and the filling of positions for the Local Police. He also stressed the importance of collaboration with the Mancomunitat de les Valls and other administrations to leverage aid and subsidies that improve the quality of life for residents.
