This new device, which the city council aims to have operational before the summer season, will be installed in the urbanizations of La Calderona, La Vidriera, and El Clot del Oliver. These areas, located four kilometers from the urban center and surrounded by vegetation in the Sierra Calderona, present a high risk of fires.
“"Some of the houses in these areas are practically within the mountain, so the risk of suffering the consequences of a fire is greater than in other urbanizations, to which are added the difficulties of access, entry and exit."
The system will allow immediate detection of heat sources and smoke, activating an alarm with public address system to alert citizens. At the same time, an alert message will be sent to the consistory and security services, ensuring a rapid and efficient response to any fire outbreak.
In addition to technology, the measure will be accompanied by a self-protection plan that will include the distribution of guides to residents with instructions and evacuation plans. Informative talks and a drill will also be carried out to prepare the population. This system will also function as a municipal proclamation and internal communication medium for the urbanizations, given the distance from the town.
The protection of people is the priority, but it also seeks to preserve the Sierra Calderona Natural Park, as a fire could cause a significant natural disaster. The area has suffered major fires in the past, such as the one in June 2023, caused by a latent lightning strike, or the one in February 2014, which forced the evacuation of two urbanizations.
