Paraglider Injured, Evacuated by Helicopter to Elche Hospital

A paraglider in his forties was injured last Saturday after falling while practicing the sport in the Camí del Carabassí area, between Los Arenales del Sol and Santa Pola, and was evacuated by helicopter to the Elche General University Hospital.

A man in his forties fell while paragliding in the Camí del Carabassí area, within the municipality of Elche, near the coast between Los Arenales del Sol and Santa Pola. The accident occurred last Saturday afternoon.
According to the Local Police of Elche, an alert was received reporting an injured sportsman. Upon the officers' arrival, the man was conscious and oriented, semi-seated on a rock and being assisted by an eyewitness, a member of an autonomous police force off-duty, who alerted the 112 emergency services.
The person who alerted the police had provided initial assistance to the injured individual, immobilizing him as much as possible and accompanying him until emergency services arrived. The officers secured the intervention perimeter and facilitated access for healthcare resources.
Given the possibility of serious injuries, the injured man was not moved until he was stabilized and immobilized by medical personnel. Subsequently, a Sanitaria Emergencies helicopter landed nearby to urgently evacuate the injured man to the Elche General University Hospital.
The paraglider was transferred with various traumatic injuries, pending medical evaluation to determine their full extent. The Local Police of Santa Pola also collaborated in the operation.
The Local Police of Elche conducted inquiries related to paragliding activities in the area and forwarded the collected information to the competent authorities to verify compliance with authorizations, insurance, and other required administrative and safety regulations.
