Puccini's renowned opera, La Bohème, will be available in cinemas in Alicante and Elche on Thursday, May 21st, featuring an ambitious staging from the Arena di Verona.

After a 13-year absence, La Bohème has returned to the iconic open-air Roman amphitheater of the Arena di Verona with a new production directed by Alfonso Signorini. This version, which transports the bohemian world of 19th-century Paris to a grand scale, will be screened in Alicante (Kinepolis Plaza Mar) and Elche (ABC… Elx), as well as in a selection of 53 cinemas across Spain.
Signorini's stage direction combines an aesthetic faithful to tradition with a dynamic and contemporary treatment of the characters. His scenography, designed by Guillermo Nova, uses transparent materials that allow multiple scenes to be observed simultaneously, enriching the narrative. The love story between Mimì and Rodolfo unfolds with an intimate intensity that effectively contrasts with the overall spectacle, designed for the big screen.
The production stands out for its visual richness, featuring detailed sets, careful costumes, and staging that enhances choral movement and large group scenes. Critics have praised the combination of innovative stage direction with top-tier vocal performances. The cast includes Juliana Grigoryan (Mimì), Vittorio Grigòlo (Rodolfo), Luca Micheletti (Marcello), and Eleonora Bellocci (Musetta), under the musical direction of Oren.
With a runtime of 123 minutes, this rendition of La Bohème offers an accessible, emotional, and sensorially impactful experience, sung in Italian with Spanish subtitles. It is part of a series of opera titles recorded in prestigious European theaters, which will soon include Madama Butterfly (June 4th) and Rigoletto (June 18th).
The synopsis places us in 19th-century Paris, where a group of bohemian youths lives on the edge, witnessing the love that blossoms between Rodolfo and Mimì, a relationship that begins as a flash of happiness but turns into an inevitable farewell.
