The Association of Friends of Arroz con Costra in Elche held a new gastronomic day this Wednesday, dedicated to the most representative dish of Elche's culinary tradition. The event brought together members and representatives of Holy Week from the province of Alicante.
On this occasion, the meal included guests from the confraternity sphere, taking advantage of the end of Easter. They shared a table with members of the collective in a relaxed atmosphere focused on defending local gastronomy. Among the attendees were Alfredo Llópis, José Sáez Sironi, Mario Ruiz, and Joaquín Martínez, presidents of the major boards of brotherhoods and confraternities from Alicante, Orihuela, Crevillent, and Elche, respectively.
Also joining the relaxed gathering were the Councilor for Festivities, Inma Mora, as well as the chaplain of the Major Board of Confraternities and Brotherhoods of Elche, parish priest Vicente V. Sáez Gonzálvez. The day served as an opportunity for the leaders of the different entities in the four municipalities to find common ground on how the processional routes unfolded and what challenges they envision for the upcoming Holy Week.
For years, the Association of Friends of Arroz con Costra has maintained intense activity to disseminate and preserve this recipe, considered one of the most characteristic dishes of Elche's cuisine. Their periodic meals have become a meeting point for residents, hospitality professionals, social representatives, and public officials who show their support for this culinary tradition. Last week, for example, political representatives from the PSOE attended, including the deputy in the Corts Valencianes Ramón Abad, national deputy Alejandro Soler, and the socialist spokesperson in the city, Héctor Díez.
