Elche City Council will unify the Poeta Miguel Hernández Social Center, the Youth Center, and the Omac into a single property, with an estimated investment of up to 1.4 million euros over ten years, seeking a new rental premises.

This decision aims to improve efficiency and citizen services compared to the current location, situated on Torres Quevedo Street. The rental contract will have a duration of ten years, with the possibility of extension for a similar period.
The City Council is looking for a large space to optimize logistics, reduce maintenance costs, and facilitate staff coordination. Municipal technicians justify that the current social center can no longer meet the needs for activities, services, or the space required for municipal personnel.
The new delimited location will be in the area between Poeta Miguel Hernández Street, Antonio Pascual Quiles Street, La Torre Street, and Conrado del Campo/Andreu Castillejos Street. The governing team expects that a single location will facilitate common access for residents to various municipal services in the neighborhood at one point, creating a reference center for the area.
Economically, this measure will lead to greater efficiency for public coffers, as three separate rents are currently paid for the youth center, study room, and Omac. Since these needs are permanent, it is considered economically advantageous to group them into a single lease agreement.
The local administration is seeking a minimum space of 700 square meters with a surface area of up to 1,000 meters, including at least a dozen offices or rooms (of at least 15 m² each), a 50 m² meeting room, a 25 m² waiting room, and an 80 m² activity room. Additionally, it must comply with current accessibility regulations and have at least one adapted restroom, with the possibility of at least two independent entrances for the different services. The idea is to define a ten-year contract with a maximum budget of 6,000 euros per month.
This change is part of the zoning designed by the Social Action department, which seeks closer intervention in neighborhoods. The new primary care zoning for Social Services will increase from four to seven basic zones, reducing the population in each and facilitating closer interventions, easing the workload for technicians, and allowing for more specific monitoring. This measure will be implemented on May 5.
