Elche CF has exercised the purchase option for Gonzalo Villar, ensuring his continuity until 2029. The Elche club has paid around one million euros to Dinamo Zagreb for the Murcian midfielder.

The green-and-white entity announced the player's return on January 31st, coinciding with the match against FC Barcelona. Gonzalo Villar arrived on loan until the end of the season with a purchase option that Elche has now decided to exercise.
The 31-year-old Murcian footballer has featured prominently under Eder Sarabia. This season, he has played 718 minutes across 12 matches and scored one goal, which was netted at the Carlos Tartiere against Real Oviedo.
Gonzalo Villar developed through the youth ranks of Elche and Valencia and previously played for the green-and-white team in the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons in the Second Division. He then embarked on an international career that took him to AS Roma, where he won the UEFA Europa Conference League with José Mourinho's team. He also had loan spells at UC Sampdoria and Getafe CF before joining Granada CF and continuing his career in Croatia.
During his time at Dinamo Zagreb, he also participated in the UEFA Europa League and won two domestic titles with the Croatian club.
