The group has informed the Ministry that, one year after the start of construction, some measures included in the Environmental Impact Statement (DIA) have not been implemented, including the main vegetation screen. This project, promoted by Área Recreativa Humedales del Sur de Alicante, obtained the DIA in September 2014 and the building permit in November 2022.
Ahsa expresses its "concern" about the works, as the project "already had two unfavorable reports during its processing". One of the key environmental conditions in the DIA was the introduction of four vegetation screens to isolate the facility, capable of accommodating over a thousand people, from what they assert is a "valuable and exceptional wetland" with botanical and faunal species in regression.
The most important vegetation screen, according to regional administration technicians, was to be located on the East side of the development, bordering the El Pinet salt flats. This was to consist of an earth embankment 1.5 meters high and 8 meters wide, with the planting of stone pines, mastic trees, dwarf palms, or tamarisks, among other native botanical species.
However, since construction began in March 2025, with some bungalows already materialized and camping pitches prepared, Ahsa warns that "the vegetation screen on the East side of the plot, the most important of the four planned in the DIA, has not been implemented, nor has the planned earth embankment even been formed".
Ecologists also believe that other conditions may be unfulfilled, such as the establishment of a drainage network to prevent fresh water from reaching the salt flats or the reservation of at least 5% of the total pitches free of overnight stay areas. Therefore, they have urged the Ministry to obtain a copy of the environmental monitoring program reports and have asked the City Council to "only grant municipal opening and activity licenses for this tourist complex when the corrective measures have been fully complied with".
