The Socialist Municipal Group of Elche has positively assessed the approval of the new State Housing Plan 2026-2030, urging local and regional administrations to join promptly to leverage its benefits.

The spokesperson for the Socialist Municipal Group highlighted the approval of the new State Housing Plan 2026-2030 by the Council of Ministers, describing it as the most ambitious to date. This plan has a total budget of 7 billion euros, with the Government of Spain contributing 60% and the remaining 40% coming from autonomous communities.
For this reason, the socialist spokesperson has urged the president of the Valencian Generalitat to adhere to the plan “as soon as possible” and the mayor of Elche to “initiate contacts with the Consell and the Ministry so that Elche can fully exploit all the benefits now available,” through specific agreements.

"It is important to continue working on rehabilitation and regeneration and to identify which areas of Elche are degraded and need state and regional funds for housing rehabilitation, beyond the funds the City Council itself has."

The spokesperson emphasized that the plan offers opportunities for Elche in promoting public protected housing at affordable prices, urban rehabilitation and regeneration, direct rental aid (especially for young people), and price containment in strained areas. They cited the San Antón neighborhood as an example, where the plan allocates 30% of funds for urban rehabilitation and regeneration, urging the City Council to promptly present the necessary actions.
Furthermore, the plan allows for the mobilization of public land from local administrations for the promotion of protected housing at affordable and permanent prices, preventing its reclassification. It also includes rental aid for young people, which the socialist group has advocated for months. The mayor of Elche has indicated that he will contact the Ministry, although he believes the State “is late” and that the Generalitat is the only one that has allocated a budget for a new housing building in San Antón.
