The municipal government of Torrevieja has responded to the press release issued by the PSOE Municipal Group, indicating "deep concern" over the socialist spokesperson's stance. This concern focuses on the lack of clarity and knowledge demonstrated in the debate on the urban modification of Sector 29, an action considered fundamental for the city's future.
“"The PSOE has not been able to explain its vote or its position. Neither in the plenary session nor afterwards. And that, in a matter of this importance, is not an anecdote: it is a lack of criteria and responsibility."
The mayor of Torrevieja highlighted that the PSOE spokesperson did not intervene during the plenary session to establish a clear position, demonstrating a lack of knowledge of the file. Furthermore, the socialist group has taken several days to try to justify its abstention, without offering a clear explanation to the public since last Monday, the date of the plenary session.
The core issue, according to the local government, remains unanswered: whether the PSOE is in favor of the expansion of the Torrevieja University Hospital. The modification of Sector 29, explained in the plenary session on April 27, responds to a commitment made over 20 years ago and allows progress in essential infrastructure, including the reservation of a healthcare plot of 11,500 square meters for the hospital.
The PP government team has been emphatic in pointing out that the debate is clear: guarantee the expansion of the hospital or allow the implementation of a new desalination plant on those lands. The mayor already warned in the plenary session that the location of a second desalination plant next to the hospital would compromise its future expansion, a decision that, according to him, responds to "totally political" criteria promoted by the Government of Pedro Sánchez.
Finally, the government team recalled that the City Council is obliged to fulfill its commitments and complete the processing of the sector, especially after years of delays. Therefore, the PSOE is urged to abandon ambiguity and act responsibly, as "Torrevieja needs an opposition that is up to the task, that is informed, and that has clear criteria".
