The arrested individual, a resident of Elche with a history of similar incidents, faces charges for stealing personal belongings from patient rooms at Torrevieja Hospital. The investigation, carried out by the Investigation Area of the Torrevieja Post, revealed that the suspect took advantage of the victims' fragility, all of whom were elderly individuals, while they were absent, asleep, or receiving medical attention.
The collaboration of the hospital's private security service was crucial for identifying and locating the alleged thief. Inquiries showed that the individual would walk through the corridors pretending to talk on a mobile phone and partially concealing his face with a cap, selecting rooms where patients could not monitor their belongings.
The analyzed images showed him leaving afterwards with the loot hidden in his jacket. The study of the complaints also revealed a common pattern, which led investigators to attribute the acts to the same perpetrator.
The victims, all elderly foreign nationals, had valuable technological devices, such as mobile phones and tablets, stolen. One of the most serious cases involved the theft of a bag containing essential medical supplies for one victim's treatment, highlighting the severity of the acts in such a sensitive environment.
This operation is part of the Guardia Civil's Coopera Program, which aims to strengthen collaboration with private security entities. Following the formal proceedings, the arrested individual was brought before the Torrevieja Court of First Instance, which ordered his release with precautionary measures.
