The presentation of these new resources was attended by the mayor, the councilor for Citizen Security, the councilor for Civil Protection and Emergencies, and the head of the Local Police. Also present were the regional minister for Emergencies and Interior and the general director of Innovation in Emergencies.
The three all-terrain vehicles have been acquired through a renting system and will be used to reinforce service in Orihuela Costa and the municipality's districts. They are equipped with specific features for complex interventions, such as winches, allowing them to operate in difficult-to-access locations. One of them will also be prepared for the future canine unit.
In parallel, the Local Police is adding a state-of-the-art drone that will be used in security operations for mass events, traffic accident reconstruction, and emergency or disaster responses, improving surveillance and coordination tasks.
“"Prevention is key to being able to react to emergency situations."
During the event, the mayor highlighted the importance of prevention and recalled the experience of the DANA of 2024 in the Valencian Community as an example of the need for adequate resources to act quickly and effectively.
“"To be effective in emergencies, one must be prepared for the worst scenarios."
For his part, the head of the Local Police recalled that Orihuela agents voluntarily participated in support tasks for municipalities affected by that meteorological event, where this type of vehicle allowed access to inaccessible areas and the removal of cars to clear streets.
