The renewal of the entity's governing bodies has placed Joaquín Ortuño, from SAT Olé, as vice-president; Antonio Ángel Hurtado, from Alcachofa Vega Baja, as secretary; and Marga Guilló joins as one of the six board members of the organization. This reinforcement consolidates the role of the Vega Baja del Segura as one of the main artichoke-producing areas in the country.
During the assembly, Pedro Herrera, general director of Conservas El Raal SLU, was appointed as the new president of the entity, replacing Antonio Galindo, who becomes a board member after eleven years in the position. Herrera thanked his predecessor for his work and highlighted the growth in artichoke consumption in various formats, despite sector difficulties.
“"The artichoke is experiencing a new youth."
The new president emphasized innovation, especially in the development of fifth-range products, and argued that the artichoke is experiencing a “new youth”. He also highlighted the growing presence of this product in restaurants and encouraged consumers to support national production.
The new board of directors is composed of Pedro Herrera (presidency), Joaquín Ortuño (vice-presidency), Julio Marín (treasurer), and Antonio Ángel Hurtado (secretary). The board members are Marga Guilló, Jaime Castel-Ruiz, Francisco Manuel Ramos, Javier Rillo, Antonio Galindo, and Andrés Legaz. The assembly was closed by the mayor of San Pedro del Pinatar, Pedro Javier Sánchez Aznar.
Founded in 2014, Alcachofa de España is a non-profit entity that currently groups 30 organizations linked to the production and commercialization of artichokes in various areas of Spain, including Vega Baja del Segura, Campo de Cartagena, Valle del Guadalentín, Navarra, La Rioja, Granada, and Castellón.
