The town of Dolores is observing a day of mourning after the discovery of three family members found dead from gunshot wounds in their home at the local barracks, in an incident being investigated as possible gender-based violence.

Consternation has gripped Dolores this Sunday, the second day of official mourning, following the tragic discovery of three members of the same family found dead from gunshot wounds in a residence at the town's barracks. The victims are a 55-year-old Civil Guard officer, his 51-year-old wife, and their 24-year-old son.
The Government Delegation against Gender Violence has confirmed that the events are being investigated as a potential case of gender-based violence. However, both the Alicante Civil Guard Command and the Government Delegate in the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé, emphasized that "all lines of investigation were open".
The municipality, with approximately 8,500 inhabitants, should have been celebrating its patron saint, San Pascual, and communions this Sunday. Although communions proceeded at the church of Nuestra Señora de los Dolores, the atmosphere was one of profound shock, with the tragedy dominating all conversations. "The town is shocked, it's incredible what has happened," commented a local resident.
In a warehouse adjacent to the barracks, three drawings were found taped to a window: a white dove with the initials RIP, a red heart, a cross, and a candle with a black ribbon, symbols reflecting the town's grief.
Autopsies are scheduled for Monday at the Institute of Legal Medicine in Alicante, with the hope that they will clarify the exact circumstances of the incident. The bodies were recovered on Saturday around 2:45 PM. Initial indications suggest that the officer, who was part of the Dolores barracks investigation team, allegedly killed his wife and son before taking his own life.
The mayor, Joaquín Hernández, noted that the facilities are equipped with video surveillance and 24-hour guard patrols, with no signs of third-party access. The family, although not originally from Dolores, had resided in the town since 1996 and had established strong social ties.
The City Council declared three days of official mourning and suspended all municipal activities. Over 400 people gathered in the Town Hall square to observe a minute of silence in memory of the victims, leaving the municipality steeped in sorrow.
