The Torrevieja City Council has approved the allocation of 128,000 euros in direct aid for merchants at the 'La Plasa' Municipal Market, aiming to minimize the economic impact of the renovation works.

The Consistory will allocate a total of 128,000 euros in individual subsidies for eight market merchants and entrepreneurs, with aid ranging between 14,000 and 22,000 euros. This measure, promoted by the Department of Commerce and Hospitality, aims to ensure the continuity of commercial activity during the execution of the modernization works.
Two beneficiaries will receive 22,000 euros each, while another six merchants will receive 14,000 euros. The call for applications is part of the municipal strategy to support local commerce and seeks to compensate for the economic difficulties arising from the comprehensive transformation of 'La Plasa', a project considered a priority for revitalizing this historic commercial space.

"From the Torrevieja City Council, we were clear that the transformation and modernization of 'La Plasa' had to be accompanied by real support measures for its merchants, because behind each stall there are families, employment, and many years of effort and dedication to local commerce."

Rosario Martínez Chazarra · Councillor for Commerce and Hospitality
The awarding procedure has been carried out in accordance with state and regional regulations, as well as the specific bases approved by the City Council. Payment of the aid will be made by bank transfer, with an advance payment of 50% of the granted amount to provide immediate liquidity to the businesses.
Rosario Martínez emphasized that this aid is a demonstration of the municipal commitment to 'La Plasa', one of the city's most emblematic spaces. The historic renovation of the Municipal Market aims to modernize facilities and services, while simultaneously supporting merchants throughout the process, so that the market continues to be a commercial, gastronomic, and social benchmark.
