The city of Torrevieja celebrates this Tuesday, June 23, the traditional Night of Bonfires of San Juan on its beaches, marking the symbolic start of summer.

This year, the celebration will be restricted to four sandy areas: La Mata, El Cura, Los Locos, and Los Náufragos. The Councilor for Beaches, Antonio Vidal, has announced a special operation designed to ensure the safety of attendees, which will include personnel from the Local Police, Civil Guard, and Civil Protection.
The festival will take place between 8:00 PM and 2:00 AM. Afterwards, citizens will be invited to conclude the celebration to allow cleaning tasks on the beaches to begin.
The City Council will distribute around 30,000 kilos of pine and mimosa wood at authorized points. The use of other types of wood or elements for making bonfires on the sand will not be permitted. Distribution points will be located on the four enabled beaches, with specific locations at Los Náufragos (Poniente pier entrance), Los Locos (central area), El Cura (northern area), and three points in La Mata (Avenida del Agua, Avenida de los Europeos, and Plaza de Encarnación Puchol).
For safety reasons, the Department of Beaches recommends that the bonfires do not exceed one meter in height.
The safety operation will involve approximately 60 people, including local police officers, civil guards, and Civil Protection volunteers. Additionally, four ambulances and a lifeguard station will be deployed on Los Náufragos beach. The Department of Urban Hygiene will reinforce the cleaning service once the festival concludes.
Antonio Vidal has called for responsibility from attendees, inviting them to collect their belongings and waste and deposit them next to the designated bins to facilitate the recovery of the beaches.
