The mayor of Rafal, Noemí Cutillas, and the Councilor for Sustainable Mobility, Víctor García, attended last Wednesday in Los Montesinos the presentation of the new bus transport service for the Vega Baja region. At this meeting, which included the participation of the Minister of Environment, Infrastructure and Territory, Vicente Martínez Mus, the new routes forming part of this emergency passenger transport contract were announced, set to take effect on June 1st.
During the presentation, the mayor of Rafal expressed her disagreement with the proposed modification to the bus stop location in Rafal and announced that corresponding objections would be filed. Until now, the service had a stop on Avenida Rafael Alberti, while the project presented by the regional government plans its relocation. In response, the governing team used the meeting to directly communicate their intention to defend the current location to the minister.
The new service includes the addition of two bus lines passing through Rafal. These are the L636 Almoradí-Orihuela, with a planned stop on Don Juan García street, and the L638 Catral-Torrevieja, with a stop planned on the CV-912.
The Rafal City Council will file objections to ensure the stop remains on Avenida Rafael Alberti or, failing that, on the CV-912. The proposed location on Juan García street is considered unsuitable as the municipality lacks a bus stop at that specific point. The City Council believes that maintaining the stop at its current location better meets the accessibility and functionality needs of this public service.
Noemí Cutillas stated, “the incorporation of these new lines is positive news for the municipality, as it improves Rafal's connection with other parts of the region”. However, she added, “from the City Council, we will advocate for the stop to remain on Avenida Rafael Alberti or, failing that, on the CV-912, as these are the two bus stops available in the municipality, where it has been located and where we believe it provides a better service to our residents”. Cutillas emphasized that the Council's objective is “to improve public transport without compromising the accessibility and convenience of the citizens”. The City Council will provide information on the full schedules and routes of these new connections via municipal social media in the coming days.
