Two men, aged 30 and 34, have been arrested in Orihuela Costa following a dangerous police chase through the Villamartín and La Zenia areas, which concluded with an officer injured.

Moments of intense tension and danger occurred yesterday morning in Orihuela Costa. The Guardia Civil has arrested two men, aged 30 and 34, after they engaged in a reckless and dangerous police pursuit across the Villamartín and La Zenia areas. The chase ended when they collided head-on with an official vehicle, causing injuries to one of the officers.
The incident began around 11:30 AM when a patrol from the Citizen Security Unit (USECIC) of Torrevieja observed a car failing to yield at a roundabout. When signaled to stop for identification, the driver ignored the signals and accelerated rapidly.
A high-speed chase ensued through various streets of the town. The fleeing vehicle began making extremely reckless maneuvers at high speed in a heavily crowded area. To evade the patrols, the driver even drove onto sidewalks, forcing several pedestrians to jump or move urgently to avoid being hit. Other drivers in the area faced similar situations.
Given the imminent risk of tragedy, several Guardia Civil vehicles coordinated a roadblock near La Zenia to cut off their escape. Instead of stopping, the suspects' car collided head-on with a marked official vehicle.
As a result of the strong impact, a Guardia Civil officer was injured and required emergency medical attention, later being transferred to a hospital. The two occupants of the fleeing vehicle were unharmed.
After apprehending and arresting the two men, officers quickly discovered the reason for their desperate flight. Upon searching the vehicle's interior, the Guardia Civil found a significant quantity of narcotic substances: 1.5 kilograms of packaged marijuana buds and a smaller dose of hashish.
The two arrestees face a long list of charges: drug trafficking (crime against public health), reckless driving (against road safety), resisting and disobeying law enforcement officers, and property damage for the destruction of the patrol car.
