The Orihuela Tourism Department has launched four new smart and secure parking points for electric bicycles, as part of its commitment to sustainable mobility.

This initiative is part of the Sustainable Tourism Plan for Destinations (PSTD) and is 100% funded by the European Next Generation EU funds. The aim is to offer mobility alternatives to both visitors and residents, promoting ecotourism and reducing carbon emissions.
The four parking modules, now operational, have been strategically located to promote intermodality: the Miguel Hernández Intermodal Station, the El Palmeral Sports Center, and the UMH campuses in Desamparados and Salesas.
Each parking station can accommodate 10 bicycles in fully sealed and opaque individual lockers, designed for maximum anti-vandal security. They allow users to securely store their bikes, helmets, and personal belongings. Additionally, they include an electric charging point and are energy-autonomous thanks to photovoltaic solar panels, with LED lighting for safe nighttime use.
The system, designed with a universal accessibility approach, allows for free management and reservation of lockers via an intuitive mobile app that checks real-time availability. Technical assistance is provided for any issues.
