The Provincial Council of Alicante has unveiled the project to improve the CV-923 road between Bigastro and the Orihuela district of Hurchillo, with an investment of 1,136,818.70 euros.

The project, budgeted at 1,136,818.70 euros with an estimated execution period of eight months, will focus on the section of the CV-923 between kilometer points 0+000 and 1+300. This road connects Bigastro with Hurchillo, Arneva, and the provincial border with Murcia.
The main objective is to enhance road safety on a road with several sharp curves where pedestrian and cyclist mobility is currently not safe. The project involves work on 1.3 kilometers, including repainting road markings in the initial section (PK 0+000 to 0+299.5) and a realignment between PK 0+290 and 0+800 to eliminate tight curves and allow for a design speed of 70 km/h.
The platform will be widened to create a 2.5-meter-wide pedestrian-cyclist path. In the variant section, the cross-section will reach 11.9 meters, with two 3.15-meter lanes, shoulders, and a safety separator. The technical report notes deterioration in the road surface, including binder loss and cracks.
The works will include earthmoving, drainage, relocation of affected services (telephony, potable water, agricultural irrigation), and new signage. Expropriations will also be necessary to secure the required land for the widening and the cycle-pedestrian path.
This initiative is part of the Provincial Plans of 2023 and was drafted at the request of the Roads Department of the Provincial Council of Alicante in April 2024.
