The protest took place early in the morning at the entrance of the facility and occurred without significant incidents. A contingent of Civil Guard and Local Police units supervised the demonstration.
This reception center has been hosting migrants from the Canary Islands for months, almost all of Sub-Saharan origin. These individuals are awaiting the normalization of their situation in Spain.
The number of residents at the center varies, ranging between 80 and 320 people, all adults. Those gathered urged for an acceleration of the extraordinary regularization process, in which they are assisted by the NGO Cepaim.
The protest concluded by mid-morning and did not involve occupying the roadway adjacent to the center's access, the old N-332, at the boundary between the Elche district of La Marina and the municipality of Guardamar.
