The La Hoya de Torrevieja project, which plans for over 7,400 homes, has two crucial pending infrastructures. One is the duplication of the bridge over the N-332 bypass, near the IES Mare Nostrum, and the other is a storm tank to manage rainwater runoff from the sector.
The bridge duplication, budgeted at 2.5 million euros, includes creating two lanes in each direction, a pedestrian walkway, and lighting. Although the developer is funding the works, the Torrevieja City Council, as the owner of the infrastructure, must coordinate the project with the General Directorate of Roads of the Ministry of Transport. This process has not yet begun, and it is estimated that the bridge will not be operational before mid-2027.
The current bridge's limited capacity is already causing traffic problems. Since August 2025, the opening of phase I roads of the macro-urbanization has led to heavy traffic flow between the CV-905 and the Avenida de las Cortes Valencianas. Furthermore, the lack of sidewalks makes crossing the bridge on foot dangerous for residents and students of IES Mare Nostrum, who use a small, unmaintained dirt path.
The other pending infrastructure is the storm tank, vital for managing rainwater. The lamination pond built in the first phase of the sector lacks a drainage connection, causing floods, such as the one recorded last October. The City Council needs to provide land for this tank, located in the Las Torretas area, but the transfer has not yet been resolved.
This tank is part of the municipal master plan for rainwater management from 2018, which has faced setbacks. Meanwhile, the governing board continues to authorize major construction licenses for homes in phase I of the sector, which was completed in August 2025, and commercial areas are also being developed.
