Firefighters have been working since this Saturday to extinguish a large fire at Desguaces Mora, in Orihuela. The fire started on the Orihuela-Almoradí road, near the hamlet of San Bartolomé. The alert to the Provincial Fire Consortium of Alicante was received at 3:52 PM, and the intervention is still ongoing.
The scrapyard is located a few meters from the Vega Baja Regional Hospital, next to the CV-91 road. This is not the first time a fire has occurred at these facilities. The fire originated within the scrapyard premises, although outside the main warehouse, in the outdoor yard.
According to the Consortium's report, the fire was initially powerful, which required mobilizing several units from the Almoradí and Orihuela fire stations, as well as the duty sub-officer from the Southern Area. The flames generated a considerable smoke plume, visible from various points in the Vega Baja, alerting residents and drivers in the area.
The magnitude of the smoke caused concern in this area near the municipal boundary, where agents from the Jacarilla Civil Guard and officers from the Local Police of Benejúzar and Orihuela also responded. The fire occurred in an enclosure dedicated to vehicle storage and treatment, which increased initial concern due to the type of materials present in such facilities.
During the intervention, emergency teams collaborated in locating nearby hydrants to facilitate water supply to the deployed units. After the initial extinguishing efforts, the fire has evolved favorably, according to information provided by the firefighters. The operation remains focused on fully controlling the fire and preventing it from spreading to other areas of the premises or reigniting. So far, no injuries have been reported. The origin of the fire is unknown, and work continues at the Desguaces Mora facilities.
