A woman died by strangulation this Tuesday in Callosa de Segura, in an incident that the Guardia Civil is investigating as gender-based violence, leading to the arrest of the victim's partner.

Sources familiar with the case have reported that the woman was murdered by strangulation. Currently, no further details have been released regarding the victim's identity or the exact circumstances surrounding the crime.
This tragic event occurs shortly after autopsies confirmed the case of Dolores as a gender-based murder. She was killed along with her son by her partner, a Civil Guard officer, before he took his own life. That case then raised the number of women murdered due to gender-based violence in Spain to 20 in 2026.
Pending official confirmation by the Ministry of Equality as a case of gender-based violence, official statistics record 1,363 women murdered due to gender-based violence in Spain since 2003, according to data updated on May 26.
