This sporting and solidarity event, organized by the Albatera Mountain and Climbing Club with the collaboration of the Albatera City Council, seeks to involve citizens in a charitable cause through popular athletics. The event changes its name to honor Esteban Sigüenza, a local resident who bravely fought leukemia, keeping his memory and his spirit of solidarity alive.
Following the success of the first edition, which had 700 participants and raised 7,260 euros, this new call aims to continue supporting research into these diseases. The Josep Carreras Foundation, with over 35 years of experience, actively works on medical research through the Josep Carreras Leukemia Research Institute and manages the Bone Marrow Donor Registry (REDMO).
May every step we take in the race also be a tribute to Esteban and a symbol of hope for all those facing this disease.
The foundation also offers essential services to patients, such as temporary housing, medical guidance, information, and support. The race's objectives include raising awareness of hematological diseases, emphasizing the importance of bone marrow donation, promoting sports, and strengthening the involvement of Albatera's social fabric.
The 5K race and 5K walk, with a completely flat route, are designed for participants of all ages and levels, including the option to participate with pets in the walk. The registration fee for both modalities is 10 euros plus management fees. For those unable to attend, Dorsal 0 is available for voluntary donations. Registrations are made through the Chip Levante platform.
Bib and runner's bag collection will take place on Thursday, April 16, Friday, April 17, and Saturday, April 18 at the Eléctricas Integradas store (C/ Óscar Esplá, 10) in Albatera. On the day of the race, they can also be collected at Plaza de España, where refreshments and award ceremonies will also be held. The walk will start at 5:30 PM and the race at 7:00 PM.
