The Vinaròs City Council plenary session experienced one of its most tense meetings, with accusations from the mayor and deputy mayor towards the opposition for an alleged “escrache” and the rejection of a Vox motion.

The plenary session of the Vinaròs City Council, held this Thursday, was marked by strong tension between members of the local government and the opposition. The mayor and deputy mayor publicly denounced an “escrache” which, according to them, was promoted by the opposition after a previous plenary session where a modification of the linguistic normalization ordinance was approved.
The mayor described the events as “shameful” and expressed her concern about the situation. For their part, the opposition groups, PSOE and Compromís, flatly denied having called the demonstration and accused Vox of using an “incendiary tone” in their motions.

"They will have us by their side if they adopt constructive policies, but not in the face of defamation campaigns or false victimism."

Another point of debate was the motion presented by the Vox municipal group, which proposed prohibiting halal menus in public centers, such as hospitals and school canteens. This proposal was rejected by all municipal groups, including PP, PVI, PSOE, and Compromís, albeit with different arguments.
The Vox spokesperson defended the motion arguing that “introducing halal menus is not integration, it is submission.” However, the PP pointed out that it was not a municipal competence and that it did not pose a problem in Vinaròs. From the opposition, Compromís described the proposal as a “discourse of hatred and division of citizenship,” while the PSOE accused Vox of trying to dictate what should be eaten in a school and of having animosity towards the educational field.
