The Civil Guard has dismantled an indoor marijuana plantation in a tool shed in Benicarló, arresting a 39-year-old man for drug trafficking, cannabis cultivation, and electricity fraud.

The operation began following an investigation by Benemérita agents, who detected a possible irregularity in the electricity supply in the town of Benicarló, in the Baix Maestrat region. This anomaly prompted the opening of an inquiry to clarify the facts.
After several inquiries and surveillance tasks, the team located a small building of about 50 m² that showed clear signs of housing an indoor plantation. Ventilation and cooling systems were observed, as well as an irregular electrical installation that was fraudulently supplied from a nearby electrical tower.
During the operation, investigators confirmed the presence of a person responsible for the surveillance and maintenance of the plantation. In coordination with the energy supply company, the property was inspected. Inside, agents found 152 cannabis plants in an advanced state of flowering, with a total approximate weight of 285 kg. The alleged perpetrator was found hidden among the cultivation material.
The installation featured a complex technical system to maximize production, including intensive lighting, climate control equipment, fans, and air filters to prevent odor detection. Furthermore, it was verified that the electrical system lacked any safety measures, posing a serious risk to nearby homes. Civil Guard officers, along with electricity company workers, dismantled the illegal connection, preventing potential further damage to the supply network.
