Alcalà de Xivert stood out in 2025 as the leading municipality in glass recycling in the province of Castellón, with 38.12 kg per inhabitant, followed by Peñíscola and Orpesa, according to the Ecovidrio report.

The entity Ecovidrio, responsible for glass recycling management, has released data for 2025 for the province of Castellón. During this period, citizens of Castellón deposited a total of 7,932 tons of glass packaging in the green containers across the province. This figure is similar to the previous year, despite an estimated 2% drop in consumption.
Specifically, in 2025, each citizen in the province deposited 12.6 kg of glass, equivalent to 43 containers per person, into the nearly 4,000 green containers available. These figures are below the national average (20 kg and 68 containers) and the regional average (17.5 kg and 60 containers). In total, over 27 million containers were collected, averaging 74 thousand per day.

"Despite maintaining selective collection levels for glass packaging in a year marked by consumption contraction, Castellón is at the bottom of the Valencian Community in citizen contribution to the green container. Castellón residents can and must strengthen their commitment to recycling in the province, and that is why we continue to work hand in hand with local administrations to reinforce source separation and deploy initiatives that allow us to progressively improve selective collection levels. Co-responsibility and shared commitment among citizens, municipalities, and industry will be key to further strengthening the system."

Manuel Sala · Manager of Ecovidrio in the Valencian Community
Glass recycling in the province of Castellón during 2025 helped avoid the emission of over 4,600 tons of CO2, save more than 5,600 MWh of energy, and prevent the extraction of over 9,500 tons of raw materials. At the Valencian Community level, 94,854 tons were collected, with an average of 17.5 kg per inhabitant. By province, Alicante led with 22.8 kg/hab, followed by Valencia (13.9 kg/hab) and Castellón (12.6 kg/hab).
In addition to container collection, Ecovidrio recovered over 21,500 tons of glass waste not correctly separated at the source, reintegrating them into the production cycle. The organization has also advanced its EcoVares strategy, impacting over 10,500 hospitality establishments at the regional level, and uses artificial intelligence to optimize collection and prevent container overflows.
