The objective of this strategic plan is to achieve a deep understanding of the monument to plan its conservation, research, restoration, and future valorization.
A Master Plan is a fundamental tool for intervening in an Asset of Cultural Interest. Before any material action, it establishes a comprehensive understanding of the monument through historical, archaeological, architectural, and construction studies. Based on this work, it defines intervention priorities, programs actions in phases, estimates necessary investments, and proposes future uses compatible with the conservation of the asset.
In the case of Borró Castle, the fortress located on the Borró rock and integrated into the medieval defensive system of La Safor, this document is particularly necessary. The fortress preserves important remains of walls, towers, and cisterns, despite showing an advanced state of deterioration due to decades without conservation interventions.
The Master Plan will allow for documenting the complex, studying its historical evolution, analyzing its state of conservation, and defining the necessary actions to guarantee its stability and recovery, as well as establishing the foundations for its management, research, and public dissemination.
Jordi Puig, mayor and councilor for Heritage, explained that the central work has begun with an initial prospecting and reconnaissance visit to the site, which will serve as a basis for subsequent studies and the development of the final document.
The drafting of the Master Plan is supported by the call for grants from the Ministry of Education, Culture, and Universities, aimed at drafting master plans for cultural heritage assets. The grant amounts to €19,829.48, with a municipal contribution of €4,958.
