The Gandia Government Board, meeting this Monday, agreed to formalize a prior requirement to the Coastline Demarcation. In this letter, the council rejects the fee increase for temporary beach facilities, decreed by this Ministry body for the occupation of the public maritime-terrestrial domain.
The local government considers that the applied increases «are not adequate» and that «there is no sufficient technical justification to support them». From the city council, they believe that these modifications alter the economic balance of existing concessions, which is why they request a review of the resolution and adequate technical and legal justification.
“"From the city council, we believe that these modifications alter the economic balance of existing concessions, which is why we request a review of the resolution and adequate technical and legal justification."
In its letter, the Gandia City Council recommends that, if applicable, this fee increase be updated when the council makes a new public tender, but not now that these services have already been awarded, valid between 2023 and 2026, and fully operational. This increase alters the economic conditions under which the tenders were made.
The local government warns that the fee will be passed on to the concessionaires, in accordance with the award specifications. And ultimately, it could end up affecting users, in the price of these services. As an example, for the occupation of the public maritime-terrestrial domain, the sailing school suffers an increase of 209 % compared to 2025, the rental of hammocks and shades a 134 %, and the side shades of the kiosks a 481 % more.
The Gandia City Council reminds Coastline that the Temporary Facilities Plan 2026 «constitutes the last extension of the 2023-2026 period, with the municipal tenders for the different beach services having been configured according to the economic conditions existing in this period and always subject to the authorizations of the Coastline Demarcation». The city council has repeatedly communicated that these tenders and their extensions «depend on the conditions established by the State Administration». As of March 26, 2026, Gandia notified the corresponding authorization for the Temporary Facilities Plan for 2026, in which the total fee amounts to 85,638 euros.
