The Valencia Provincial Council will finance the final phase of the new day center in Sueca with an investment of 680,000 euros, as part of the Pla Obert (Open Plan). This project will adapt the former slaughterhouse into a social services space. The first vice-president and head of Cooperation, Natàlia Enguix, highlighted that the project "improves people's lives, in this case for the elderly of Sueca, and represents the essence of the major investment program" developed to facilitate such initiatives.
During the visit to the former slaughterhouse, accompanied by the mayor, Julián Sáez, the launch of the definitive phase was announced, with the aim of opening the day center next year. The mayor explained that "we have been working on this project for many years, developed in phases with co-financing between the council and the Deputation," and that now the funds from the Pla Obert will be used for the "final habilitation phase," before proceeding with the equipment and launch.
Natàlia Enguix recalled previous visits to the facilities, emphasizing that the future center is "accessible, adapted to users' needs" and requires a "final intervention to connect all spaces and achieve functionality." She noted that Sueca has over 2,600,000 euros allocated within the Deputation's investment program.
Julián Sáez pointed out that "more than two million euros" have already been invested in the new day center, "the majority with funds from the Deputation," and stressed the importance of not letting "the passage of time deteriorate what we have already improved." Previous phases included structural consolidation, thermal and acoustic insulation, water, electricity, telecommunications, climate control, and security systems, as well as carpentry renovation, all considering energy efficiency and accessibility.
The day center, located in a quiet area near the Júcar river, will feature a kitchen, dining room, infirmary, medical and mental health services, adapted bathrooms, a multipurpose room, exhibition and entertainment areas, a rest area, occupational activities, and functional rehabilitation. The final phase will involve connecting the different sections of the modernist building, creating a covered walkway, and restoring parts not previously addressed.
The renovation of the former slaughterhouse is Sueca's most significant project under the Pla Obert (680,000 euros), which also included the renovation of the municipal Data Processing Center (330,000 euros). The municipality still has 1,600,000 euros available for new projects, bringing the total to 2,608,000 euros.
Beyond these investments, Natàlia Enguix also visited the Sueca trinquet (pelota court), where the mayor requested the Deputation's assistance to repair the roof. The vice-president will explore including this action in the specific Trinquets plan promoted by the provincial council.
